A msg from Toys:

Welcome again, human_friend, to another historic event in our storied timeline! This one marks the 5th anniversary of The Dream Kitchen!

Fun fact: We don't talk about it much, but in 2008 The Dream Kitchen officially opened...and then a little later in 2008 it officially closed. Maybe that era wasn't so welcoming, yet in 2018 we got the stovetop firing again with Splendid Industries chipping in as corporate overlords, whilst a fresh crop of unusual music bands had been growing up all healthy and robust. Just as we'd hoped 15 years ago, this little nonprofit, unfunded, love-labour intensive outreach program continues to make connections via new music endeavours, community initiatives, a variety of increasingly unconventional art schemes, and a limitless assortment of egregious food puns.

In the lead up to our present milestone, I've found myself in a retrospective sorta space, stirring up all kinda nostalgia vibes...and for good reason. In honour of the bands that began the journey with us, this is a collection representing the moment of discovery including (with only a handful of exceptions) the first songs I ever heard by each act. What you're listening to now compelled me to double back and double down on the idea of building something weird, kept me working through the hardest days, and still inspires me to look toward whatever's forward. It seems a fitting tribute then, since this is the last time I assemble one of these anniversary compilations.

And since we're crying just a little bit, we hope you'll sit back and soak up these sounds which have kept our oven cooking until all the smoke alarms went off. We'll see y'all here 'n' there 'n' who knows where, but for right now plz enjoy your stay in the Hall of Oblivion!
